SUMMERTIME AND THE LIVING IS EASY
It’s the first day of summer and what do you know, it’s 115 degrees today!!!
We knew it was going to get hot, and let me tell you 115 is HOT!!! The hottest ever recorded temps here in the Phoenix area were 122 degrees, and occurred on June 26, 1990.
Well, yesterday is was 119 degrees, so not too far off the record, WHEW!!!
Needless to say, we are spending most of our afternoons keeping cool indoors with the A/C on and then heading into the pool around 9:00pm to cool down before bedtime.
Not a bad way of coping 😉
It is definitely HOT. And we are careful not to overdo it.
WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING AROUND HERE
A little of THIS and a little of THAT, in no particular order.
So much new nature for us to learn about here in Arizona, and mostly right in our own yard and neighborhood. It’s amazing how much wildlife and nature we see everyday, we love it here. <3
From left to right and top to bottom.
Top Left: 1.) New lemons coming in on our backyard lemon tree. 2.) One of the many Desert Cottontails we see everyday in our yard and all over our neighborhood, they are SO CUTE!!! 3.) A Date Palm tree, one of several different varieties that grow in our neighborhood and all around the Phoenix area in general. Middle Left: 4.) The blooms of the Saguaro Cactus, so beautiful and brief. 5.) My favorite Saguaro in the neighborhood, I call him Mr. Cactus LOL! I keep hoping to see an Elf Owl nesting inside one, but alas, not so lucky yet 😉 6.) A gorgeous Prickly Pear Cactus Blossom with a busy bee pollinating it. Bottom Left: 7.) Thanks to the help of MacBeth, we discovered these clustered insects are Fire Bugs. 8.) My beautiful front entry planters, we have two that flank the front door and this one was looking pretty good when I snapped this photo. 9.) Our Lady of Lourdes and our Lady Banks Climbing Rose Arbor, making headway 🙂
My TBR pile is full of all my favorite summer reads by Elin Hildebrand! Currently I’m working on The Island. If you haven’t read any of her books, give them a try, they are like a good chick flick and you can basically read them half sleeping, ask me I know 😉
Gabriel is starting the first Percy Jackson book, The Lightning Thief and really enjoying it. This is a big challenge for him and he’s plugging away, I’m so proud of him 🙂
Elijah is reading two books at the moment, Calico Joe by John Grisham which I read first and gave it directly to him 😉 and Symphony for the City of the Dead a book about Shostakovich that his cello teacher back in Seattle gave him. It’s really good, he’s loving it.
Using my crock pot in full force so I don’t have to turn on the oven.
Grill is our best friend right now – loving that 😉
College kids are busy with work and a few classes to knock out some gen eds, they are doing great!!
